Anacortes Lutheran Church

August 9, 2020 The Tenth Sunday After Pentecost

WELCOME, CONFESSION and FORGIVENESS, ENTRANCE HYMN,

and PRAYER of the DAY

Confession and Forgiveness:

P: In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

P: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

Most merciful God,

C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

C: Amen.

Greeting:

P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C: And also with you.

Entrance Hymn: Listen, God is Calling (vs. 1&3) ELW #513

Prayer of the Day:

P: The Lord be with you.

C: And also with you.

P: O God our defender, storms rage around and within us and cause us to be afraid. Rescue your people from despair, deliver your sons and daughters from fear, and preserve us in the faith of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

C: Amen.

PRAYERS of INTERCESSION and OFFERING

Prayers of Intercession:

A: Confident of your care and helped by the Holy Spirit, we pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need.

A brief silence.

For your whole church throughout the world. Give courage in the midst of storms, so that we see and hear Jesus calling: "Take heart, it is I: do not be afraid." May we follow Christ wherever he leads.

For the well-being of your creation. Protect waterways, forests, lands, and wildlife from exploitation and abuse. Help the human family endeavor to sustain and be sustained by the resources of your hand.

For the nations and their leaders. In you there is hope and life. Be with all nations struggling with pandemic, poverty, hunger and war. Sustain our own country in the midst of multiple crises and changes. Grant wisdom to our leaders. Bring healing to the land. Keep safety on our streets and freedom for all.

For those in need. Everyone who calls upon your name will be saved. Accompany all who are lonely or grieving, hear the voices of those who cry out in the midst of disease and isolation, and support those who are frustrated and losing hope. We pray for all the sick and suffering this day; especially those in our community, and friends and family closest to our hearts.

For our congregation. Sustain Anacortes Lutheran Church during these uncertain times. Through your Holy Spirit, draw us together even though we are apart.

In the certain hope that nothing can separate us from your love, we offer these prayers to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C: Amen

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive us our trespasses against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory. Amen.

Post Communion Prayer:

P: God of the welcome table, in this meal we have feasted on your goodness, and have been united by your presence among us. Empower us to go forth sustained by these gifts so that we may work your fields, sharing your neighborly love with all, through Jesus Christ the giver of abundant life.
